Kleinpeter Farms
Family owned since 1913, Kleinpeter Farms provides dairy products without using recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) or recombinant Bovine Somatotrophin (rBST), Kleinpeter manages a herd of more than 700 cows on a 1,500 acre farm in Montpelier, La. The company was the recipient of the 2007 Louisiana Wildlife Federation Conservation Award for developing a model of cooperation between the business of agriculture and conservation of the environment. Kleinpeter provides environmentally sensitive housing for its cows and produces much of the forage the cows feed on. The farm’s state-of-the art facility incorporates the latest in dairy science, agriculture and conservation practices.
Kleinpeter’s milk and dairy products can be found in the Baton Rouge area.
Jeff Kleinpeter talks about the American Humane certification program:
‘When the American Humane Association performs their annual audit of us, they don’t merely do a “walk through” and look at our records, and “take our word” for things, they really look at the animals and examine them…they look at our records in our computer systems…they look at how we raise our calves, and they look at all of this very skeptically.
They want to see us succeed, but they know we can’t succeed if we don’t treat our cows right, and with the highest dignity.
We scored a perfect score on our last random inspection from AHA. I was very proud of this. We are the only dairy in the history of AHA that has ever scored a perfect score on an inspection…in the history of AHA!!”
